Stand together - Holocaust Memorial Day Event at Hasmonean Girls' school
Posted on: 27/01/2020A group of Year 10 and 12 Copthall Students attended an extremely interesting and thought-provoking day at Hasmonean Girls’ school on Friday 24th January. The event was to mark Holocaust Memorial Day and focused on the theme ‘Stand together’. Year 10 students from different schools worked together in a session about refugees. We also listened to a fascinating talk by Mr Derek Noiman who found out only 6 years ago that his grandfather had been an SS officer in Nazi Germany. Sixth form students also heard the very moving testimony of a holocaust survivor whose family was murdered at Auschwitz Death camp. The key message of the day was to recognise and celebrate our common humanity rather than focusing on perceived differences and it was great to see students from different schools learning about each other and the importance of standing together against prejudice. We would like to thank Hasmonean Girls’ School for their very warm welcome to us.
