Creative Writing club - Holocaust Memorial Day
Posted on: 01/02/2021Our online Y7/8 Creative Writing Club met on 27th January, Holocaust Memorial Day. The theme this year is ‘Be the light in the darkness’; after listening to Shelia Hancock’s moving reading of Refugee Blues by WH Auden, the students worked together to create this wonderful group poem:
In the darkness they lay with hatred and despair
Not knowing what to do or how to make things fair
Darkness suffocates the light like a blanket but the light tries to wriggle through
Only a little manages to escape, and tries to give hope that’s new
Hope is being able to see that there is light undeterred by all of the darkness
Without the darkness we would never see the stars.
Hope is at the end of the very dark tunnel and with light we can get through
As always, we’re so impressed with both the creativity and heart of our girls!
