We made it to the finals! Tycoon Team HOPE

Congratulations to the Tycoon Team HOPE!

This week the Tycoon Team HOPE received the exciting news from the Peter Jones Foundation that they have made it into the top 10 of nearly 300 businesses of this year’s Tycoons in schools competition. This means they have been invited to attend the grand final celebration at Hampton Court Palace in September where the winners will be announced!

I am so proud of the way these 7 girls have worked towards this amazing achievement. They have been absolutely committed from the very inception in October 2020 when they first started discussing ideas, merchandise and designs. This is such an endorsement of the business skills they have acquired and developed over the last 9 months. Not only were they judged on profit, but also: creativity and innovation, problem solving and financial skills, self-management and resilience, communication, digital skills, teamwork and leadership. They created a video reflecting on their experiences which really demonstrated how much they had learned and grown as entrepreneurs. The judges were particularly impressed with the fact that their enterprise was so much more than a profit making business; it was a driving force for social change.

From their profits they have chosen to donate £250 to The Black Curriculum and and additional £168 to Book Love in a Box. The later creates multicultural book bundles to donate to schools. They connected with Samantha of This is Book Love through their marketing and she has supported them through social media and even invited them to sell on her stall.

Their success is particularly impressive given Covid restrictions, and the last minute January lockdown, which significantly limited their opportunities for face-to-face marketing. Despite this, their creativity, innovation and adaptability enabled them to pull this off, Skills which will set them up for a very bright future in these uncertain times.
