International Women's Day 2023 #EmbraceEquity
Posted on: 08/03/2023Students started the day with a form time focused on unpacking what International Women's Day is and why this is so important. They considered this year's theme of #EmbraceEquity and what it means to fully embrace equity and the importance of equitable action for true inclusion.
Students then wrote their own pledges on how they will help to forge women's equality. Examples of pledges that students wrote include "I pledge to fight for equal rights and equality to make the world a more just place. I pledge to work hard and treat everyone with the same amount of respect and equity". Another student wrote "I pledge to grow up and work hard to empower and emphasise the power and rights of women".
During lessons, curriculum areas each focused on the inspirational contributions of women in their subject areas. Examples include Business Studies who focused on the top 20 most powerful women, Drama shone a spotlight on women who have achieved excellence in the world of acting, English explored the presentation of female characters across a range of different texts and Science looked at a range of women in science and the importance of female scientists.
