World Book Day 2024
Posted on: 07/03/2024On Thursday, 7 March, we celebrated World Book Day. Thank you to all staff who enthusiastically shared our love of reading and Literature:
Thank you to Mr Weldon, who led on World Book Day themed activities for students in the Library.
We also had the pleasure of hosting our virtual author visit from Ms AM Dassu, who inspired our Year 8s and 9s to express themselves, fight injustice and challenge stereotypes while promoting her novels. Copthall students represented our school and themselves well. I was thrilled to hear all of the students engaging in deeper conversations about reading and social justice.
AM Dassu is a multi award-winning writer of both non-fiction and fiction including the internationally acclaimed novel Boy, Everywhere, one of The Guardian’s Best Children’s Book of the Year. Her recently launched novel, Fight Back Her has already been listed for 23 awards including the 2023 Carnegie Medal.
Some of our Year 8 and 9 students have been selected to read and review Miss Dassu’s novel, ‘Fight Back’:
A. M. Dassu writes books that challenge stereotypes, humanise the “other” and are full of empathy, hope and heart.
A huge thank you to everyone involved with the event planning, whose hard work behind the scenes makes it all possible. A special thank you to Miss Pan, who took time outside of her MFL curriculum duties to support with our author visit.
